Cannabis sales growing in BC
Published on December 12, 2025 by Pat Bulmer
BC’s cannabis wholesaler sold 6.4% more grams of cannabis in the second quarter of 2025 than it did a year earlier, a financial report shows.
The provincial wholesaler reported selling approximately 41 million grams of cannabis, compared to just under 39 million in the same quarter in 2024.
In dollar terms, sales rose 4.8% to $154 million from $147 million (figures are rounded off by the oz.)
The per gram price of all cannabis dropped to $3.75 per gram from $3.81. The per gram price of dried flower dropped to $3.13 from $3.15 per gram.
The BC Liquor Distribution Branch ships to private stores, BC Cannabis Stores and the BCCS online site. A direct delivery program was launched in 2022. Those figures are reported separately.
The inhalable extracts category was the biggest seller, in dollar terms, with $57 million in sales, up 8.3% from the same quarter a year ago. Infused pre-rolls topped that category, generating 39.3% of sales in dollar terms. Vaping cartridges were close behind at 36.8%. After disposable pens at 15.1%, other inhalables were a tiny percentage of the total.
Dried flower sales totalled $42 million — a 3.4% decline from last year’s quarter. Indica was the favoured strain, generating 52.9% of sales, followed by sativa, hybrid and variety pack.
Dried flower sold best a 28-gram format, the largest size available, the report showed with approximately $21 million in sales at that size in July, August and September, or eight million grams.
Pre-rolls were the No. 3 selling category with $37 million in sales, up 7.5% from last year.
Sativa was the favourite strain of pre-rolls, edging out indica — with hybrid, variety pack and blend well behind.
Beverage and edible sales climbed, but were still smaller than other categories at under $10 million in sales each.
The retail store count grew to 522 from 510, the report showed.
Direct sales totalled $3 million in the quarter, up 33% from a year ago. Direct sales by the gram were up 52% to 741,000. Flower was the top direct-delivery seller, followed by pre-rolls.
The report presented the statistics in a series of graphics, but provided no commentary.
