BC strike drastically slowed cannabis sales, report shows

A five-week government workers’ strike drastically slowed sales for BC’s cannabis wholesaler.

A quarterly report showed sales and revenues down in the third quarter of 2025 in almost all categories compared to the same quarter in 2024.

BC General Employees’ Union members were on the picket line for more than five weeks in September and October.

Wholesale sales were down to $113 million in 2025, from $147 million in same 2024 quarter.

Grams sold dropped from 39 million to 30 million.

Prices per gram also dropped slightly: Dried flower was down to $3.10 from $3.14. The per gram price for all cannabis was down to $3.75 from $3.80.

Inhalable extracts were the top-selling category ($45 million), followed by flower ($31 million) and pre-rolls ($24 million). Other categories sold considerably less (edibles, beverages, ingestible extracts, seeds, topicals).

More than 50% of flower sold was in the 28-gram size, the largest available. That was about $16 million worth, down from $22 million a year ago.

Direct delivery sales were calculated separately. The BC wholesaler sold about $20 million worth of product that way.

The report offered a series of charts and graphs, but little commentary.
