Cannabis headed to U.K. intercepted

Photo: Contributed Border services officers in Montreal seized more 2,700 kilograms of cannabis in two recent busts.
In both cases, the cannabis was destined for the United Kingdom.
On Sept. 17, 2,550 kg of cannabis was found in a shipment containing bundles of lumber.
On Sept. 26, 173 kg was discovered with boxes of paper towel rolls inside a container.
The pot was discovered by the Montreal Marine and Rail Services division of the Canada Border Services Agency and turned over to the RCMP.
Illicit cross-border movement of cannabis is punishable with up to five years of prison under the Customs Act and up to 14 years under the Cannabis Act, the CBSA says.
