Looking for things to do to mark 4/20?

There’s a lot happening in and around the stoner holiday this year.

We’ve curated events big and small from Kelowna to St. John’s in our 2023 list. They include parties, theatre, comedy, and science.

 

4/20 events in British Columbia

Sunset Beach, Vancouver

Expected to be the biggest bash in BC, 420 Vancouver is returning to Sunset Beach.

There will be markets and live music.

In the past, the event has drawn massive crowds and hundreds of vendors.

It goes from noon to 10 p.m.

Thornton Park, Vancouver

Meanwhile, a rival protest and farmer’s market is organized by activist Neil Magnuson at Thornton Park.

It’s billed as 29th annual Official Vancouver 420 festival.

They’ll unveil the “world’s biggest joint” and even have a rep from the Guinness World Records there.

Upside Cider, Kelowna

In Kelowna, Upside Cider is hosting the first annual Kelowna Canna Music and Arts Celebration on April 20 from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Located near the Kelowna International Airport, the event at Upside is organized by Alice in Bassland Productions, and Tayzr Events, and Ora Laser Entertainment. There will be dancers, music, and comedy. Tickets are limited.

The venue won’t have alcohol.

ENSO Event Centre, Vancouver & Gotham Nightclub, Kelowna

Fresh off his controversy over using home video of a police raid on his house in a music video, Afroman is doing shows in Vancouver and Kelowna.

The man behind the viral ‘because I got high’ hit will perform in Kelowna at Gotham Nightclub on April 18 at 8 p.m.

He’ll be in Vancouver on April 20 at ENSO Event Centre. The show starts at 7 p.m.

New Amsterdam Café, Vancouver

There are a couple parties happening at the legendary New Amsterdam Café in Vancouver on West Hastings.

An event on April 20 , the Four Twenty Party, goes from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with music, and infused cannon, and prizes.

Then on April 22, Phantom Sound and Media is putting on a night of music and marijuana with DXADPOXT and laidbackshel.

Eldorado Hotel, Kelowna

The second annual BC Cannabis Summit may start a day after 4/20, but there will be lots of people lighting up together on the roof of the Eldorado Resort on April 21.

 

4/20 events in Alberta

BUD + BLOOM, Edmonton

The Catalyst is hosting an open mic night on April 20 at BUD + BLOOM Visual Arts Studio.

While listening to live music, visit the exhibition featuring the life-changing cannabis journeys of 33 women in a photographic art series.

It’s open to all ages and runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Globe Cinema, Calgary

The 20th Annual Underground Film Festival in Calgary happens to open on April 20, running through April 30 at the Globe Cinema.

The opening night film is the Canadian premiere of Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, which features terrifying monsters and dark and silly laughs.

There’s also an after party.

4/20 events in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan Science Centre, Regina

Nerds are letting their hair down for The Bud Bash on April 20 at the Saskatchewan Science Centre from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Part of their Adult Science Nights, there will be some cool stuff to do, including sensory toys and a chill quiet lounge.

“Leaf your worries behind as this is sure to be a bud-tiful event!” say organizers.

 

4/20 events in Manitoba

Wetland Discovery Centre, Winnipeg area

Perhaps just a happy accident, the Wetland Discovery Centre just outside Winnipeg is having an Astronomy Night on April 20.

A guest speaker will talk about the many different telescopes available, followed by an observation session on the roof top.

The only legal venue where you can smoke weed and watch comedians is having an event on 4/20.

4/20 events in Ontario

Mystic Tea House, Toronto

Lit Comedy, Toronto’s only indoor venue where you can legally smoke weed and watch comedy, is presenting The 420 Show.

The show features a lineup of comics and takes place at the Mystic Tea House on Danforth Ave.

The vent is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bud).

Organizers have a Health Canada research licence.

Niagara Falls Convention Centre, Niagara Falls

The Niagara Falls 420 Expo is April 22. It features more than 30,000 square feet of cannabis fun.

There will be over 100 vendors, two stages for seminars and speakers, games, and more.

It goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Six Nations, Ohsweken

A two-day 420 Fest starts April 20 on Six Nations at The Grand River—the largest reservation in Canada.

Organized by Indigenous Canna Business and Level Up+, the first day is highlighted by a community barbecue and the second day features a charity concert for 6 Nations Food Bank and Indigenous Residential School Survivors, headlined by Drezus and Dakota Bear.

Tickets are by donation.

4/20 events in Quebec

MainLine Theatre, Montreal

Contact Theatre’s production of Reefer Madness, a satirical musical based on the 1936 propaganda film of the same name, opens on April 20, with performances through April 19.

It’s described as a “show within a show.” Expect haze, strobe lighting effects, and black lights.

 

4/20 events in Newfoundland

Erin’s Pub, St. John’s

A little bud may help to make comedy rookies a bit funnier.

The Freshbuds 420 Comedy Show at Erin’s Pub in St. John’s is for first-timers to try out their one-liners. There’s a $100 prize for the winner.
