A member of the BC cannabis community who has been helping others grow in the industry now needs some help herself.

Lara-Rose Duong has been undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) treatment at Clinica Ruiz in Puebla, Mexico, after becoming extremely ill over the holidays.

A campaign called “Lara’s Rose: Stems for the Future” on GoFundMe is raising money to help pay for medical bills.

“After being failed by the Canadian medical system for two decades, my sister, Lara-Rose Duong, nearly passed away over the holiday season,” says Nikki Duong.

“Years of misinformation and lack of concrete medical answers lead to my sister’s body failing her after having a myasthenia gravis crisis.”

Duong married her partner, Adin Tetz, in a small ceremony while undergoing treatment.

She was integral in organizing the first Okanagan 420 Networking event last year and has been growing the Craft 4 Lunch group on Clubhouse — among many other cannabis community building groups.

The family is fundraising to cover the costs of the life-saving treatment, along with the costs of her road to recovery post-treatment. About $8,000 has been raised so far.

The family is asking that you:

  1. Donate whatever you can.
  2. Amplify on social media with #hope4lara
  3. Share the GoFundMe
