Penticton’s first cannabis store opens

Published on August 10, 2019 by oz. staff

Penticton’s Spiritleaf location is the first legal cannabis store to open in the city.

The store at 2695 Skaha Lake Road opens today (Aug. 10) from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. — which will be their daily hours.

Store manager Jackson Coffey says that because there were no government timelines on their licence and the lack of banking support for legal cannabis businesses, their payment terminals are yet to arrive.

“We wanted to open our doors to the community ASAP, as this has already taken longer than anyone would like,” he says.

“We have arranged to have an ATM on site so there is access to cash if people don’t have handy. We didn’t want to go this route, as a cash only business can be sometimes cause red flags for people, but again wanted to be open to the community ASAP, and those terminals will be available to customer in the very near future.”

The store will have a selection of cannabis and cannabis-related products.

Spiritleaf now has two provincially approved locations in the Okanagan.

The store in Vernon was the first provincially licensed retail cannabis store in the Okanagan. It opened on Canada Day. The chain will also have stores in Kelowna and West Kelowna.

Five cannabis stores now have provincial approval in the Okanagan. Hobo has opened in Kelowna and Starbuds has opened in Lake Country.
