Column: Consumers make a quick switch to organic cannabis

Published on July 16, 2020 by Katerina Bakalos

We are seeing more and more health-conscious choices in our day to day lives. So why should this not include our recreational products too? From flower to edibles there are more options for vegan, gluten free, sugar free, and organic products than ever before. Currently available at Green Gaia Cannabis Co. is Whistler Cannabis, The Green Organic Dutchman (TGOD), and Organigram. On the way is Simply Bare Organics and Island Growers.

Organic cannabis contains nutrients that yield healthier plants which ultimately give higher concentrations of cannabinoids and terpenes, and are free of any chemicals, pesticides, and carcinogens giving a smoother more superior smoking experience. What are Organic nutrients? Organic nutrients are mainly comprised of elements either from animal or organic plant waste including but not limited to compost, manure, mineral rock, and bone meal. Most non-organic growers have an inordinately high content of potassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen. Concentration of these macronutrients can cause a nutrient burn on the plant from over feeding. It will also cause the soil to degrade over time and will cause leaching which over time leads to gradual environmental degradation.  The user may experience headaches or greater burn on the throat or lungs. So, are there any benefits to growing or purchasing non-organic? The main reason is price. Easily available and less expensive to organic products. Precise ratios of the included nutrients

Cannabis users should feel confident that the flower they are smoking is safe, healthy, and free of unwanted chemicals and additives.  Now, there are a few brands that are not certified organic but use healthier practices. For instance, 7 Acres uses aphid eating moths to keep them off their plants and are free from using any chemicals or pesticides.  A current customer favorite at Green Gaia Cannabis Co. must be the Whistler Cannabis Corp. They have released some high THC strains such as Chocolope, and Acapulco Gold. Even with the jaw dropping price of sixty dollars an eighth there is a high demand and we are restocking.
