ABCs of CBD

Published on December 16, 2018 by oz. staff

Cannabis is composed of hundreds of chemical substances, many are known as cannabinoids – including THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol).

THC is responsible for the psychoactive effect. Unlike THC, CBD has no intoxicating effect. It is becoming known for certain medicinal properties, including treatment for inflammation and seizures.

CBD is generally found in low percentages in most strains, but its effects are more pronounced when found in quantities above four percent. High-CBD strains of cannabis are generally considered to be less intoxicating and high percentages of CBD may counteract the intoxicating effects of THC.

Both THC and CBD are made and stored in the cannabis trichomes – the tiny, clear hairs that stick out from the flowers and leaves.

Cannabinoids affect cell receptors in the brain and body and have the ability to change how cells behave and communicate with each other.
