Employees at an Okanagan cannabis facility were evacuated after a fire broke out inside.

Dressed in scrubs, over a dozen employees from an Okanagan cannabis production facility were evacuated this week because of a fire.

Kelowna firefighters responded Wednesday morning to the Flowr Okanagan facility, now owned by Avant Brands.

About six firetrucks were on scene around 8 a.m. Wednesday at the McCarthy Road grow operation, located on the border of Kelowna and Lake Country.

There was no visible smoke but crews had hooked a hose up to the hydrant.

Fire officials say there was a small fire in a second-floor room started by a light fixture. The room was damaged by fire and smoke.

Kelowna-based Avant Brands, which grows under the names BLK MKT and Tenzo, snatched up Flowr Okanagan earlier this year after the company went into creditor protection.
