Kelowna council says no to BC Cannabis Store
Published on February 25, 2020 by oz. staff
Kelowna city council rejected a BC Cannabis Store location Monday in a 5-4 vote.
Staff recommended against the Rutland store due to “clustering” — in other words, it was too close to another cannabis store already approved in the area.
Kelowna city staff say the request by the province goes against its own provincial — and comparable — policy of keeping liquor stores a reasonable distance apart.
The proposed store in Willow Park Mall would have employed 15 people.
The provincial government has a BCCS location open in Penticton and another coming soon in Vernon.
