Ontario CannSell course under new ownership

If you want to work at a cannabis shop you have to get a little education first.

That schooling can differ province to province.

In Ontario, there are changes happening to the ownership of the approved programming. This week, Canadian Cannabis Retailers announced it had purchased ‘the assets’ of the CannSell cannabis retail education programs from Gotham Green Partners Admin 1, LLC. It’s the sole mandated cannabis retail education program in Ontario by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

Provincial governments require that anyone employed in cannabis retail must receive education on what cannabis is, what effects it can have, and how to sell it responsibly according to all applicable rules and regulations.

The CanSell program was developed by Lift & Co. in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). It was recently acquired by Canadian Cannabis Retailers Co. Ltd. (CCRC).

Interestingly, CCRC’s mission statement declares an intention to provide “education and training on safe, responsible, and consumer-friendly cannabis retailing practices across all provinces, territories, and municipalities.”

Here in British Columbia, if you are interested in working in cannabis retail you need to take the Selling It Right certification. That’s the cannabis equivalent to the Serving It Right course for alcohol sales. Both are managed directly by the government of B.C.

The CCRC agreed to ensure the operational stability of the program going forward, including a renewed focus on customer service so that CannSell users have access to quality program and technical support.

More than 8,000 individuals in Ontario have completed the standard program.
