Stats Cannabis

Published on August 23, 2019 by oz. staff

Cannabis is king in the north.

Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon are now leading the country in cannabis use — with Iqaluit at 32%, Yellowknife at 30% and Whitehorse at 24%.

The last time these stats were released three months ago, Alberta was the highest. This time it’s fallen to fourth at 20%.

Statistics Canada also found men are more likely to use cannabis across almost all age groups — women 65 and older are more likely than men.

Men also tend to use more frequently.

Women are more likely to get cannabis from friends or family.

The info comes from Statistics Canada’s quarterly cannabis info. To monitor cannabis consumption before and after Canada legalized cannabis last October, the nation’s number cruncher has been conducting the NCS every three months since 2018.
