Cannabis continues to grow as a Canadian crop.

Statistics Canada released 2020 farm receipt numbers Tuesday, and they show cannabis crops have grown steadily over the past three years. In 2020, cannabis farm receipts totalled just over $4 billion, that compares to $2.3 billion in 2019 and $564 million in 2018.

“In the second full year of legalized recreational cannabis use, cannabis receipts rose by almost three-quarters (+73.9%)—accounting for almost one-third of the increase in total crop receipts,” says the federal agency.

“The demand for dried cannabis was spurred by the introduction of edibles, cannabis-based drinks and topicals in late 2019 and early 2020.”

Total farm cash receipts in 2020 increased 8.1% to $71.7 billion.
