SpeakEasy harvests biggest outdoor crop

Published on September 28, 2020 by David Wylie

One of the biggest outdoor cannabis harvests in Canadian history—if not the world—is taking place near the Okanagan.

SpeakEasy Cannabis in Rock Creek is in the midst of harvesting 60 acres of plants, tall, stinky, and individually potted.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have started the harvest of our outdoor grow,” says founder Marc Geen. “It’s been a long road and I’m happy to report the quality of the bud has exceeded all my expectations.”

The Geen family has been actively farming in the Okanagan for five generations, and is also known for its significant involvement in the iconic Okanagan brand, Sun-Rype.

The cannabis harvest started on Sept. 21 and is expected to last a few weeks. Located in Boundary Country at the southern end of Highway 33, SpeakEasy is in a perfect spot to grow cannabis.

And the conditions this summer were excellent, says the founder.

Bud from the grow will be sold as flower, pre-rolls, and used in extract products, such as oils and vapes.

“It’s all hands on deck as we tackle this next challenge here at SpeakEasy and as anticipated, everyone has pulled together making an extremely difficult process seem easy,” says Geen.

“As always I am so proud of our dedicated group of talented hard working employees, without them we would have nothing but a bunch of good ideas.”

SpeakEasy owns 290 acres of land in Rock Creek.

The company also cultivates small batch, high-quality craft cannabis in its 10,000-square-foot indoor facility.
