Zoning laws green lit in Vernon
Published on December 11, 2018 by David Wylie
The North Okanagan’s biggest city has now paved the way for cannabis retail and production.
Vernon council has approved changes to the zoning bylaw to allow the business of cannabis in many of its commercial and industrial zones.
Both Kelowna and Penticton have completed this step.
However, there are still no retail cannabis stores anywhere in the Okanagan.
The District of Lake Country voted against what could have been the first; though the mayor is reopening discussion on Dec. 18.
“Now that the amendments have been approved by council, the city can accept applications for cannabis sales and other cannabis activities,” according to a news release from the city.
A public hearing was held in November to gather feedback.
